Shahzia Sikander (b. 1969, Pakistan) is a New York-based artist whose work depicts themes of cultural, social, and political histories through techniques associated with traditional Indo-Persian miniature painting. Sikander challenges the strict formal tropes of this technique by translating the concepts to contemporary forms of painting, animation, and installation.
